Associate Professor, Faculty of Education, Bar-Ilan University

Prof. Pascale Benoliel is an associate professor with tenure, Head and founder of the Faculty of Education International Affairs Unit, and the Head of the Leadership Organizational Development & Policy program (BA and MA), Faculty of Education, at Bar Ilan University, in the city of Ramat Gan in the Tel Aviv District, Israel. She also serves as the commissioner of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the faculty of education.

Prof. Benoliel was born and raised in France, Paris. She graduated high school, Yavne in Paris, and then made her Allyah to Israel where she pursued her academic studies. She received her BSc degree in Education Biology-Science and Technology (2002), at the Technion, the Israel Institute for Technology. She received her M.A. and her Ph.D. degree (2012) in the Educational Leadership and Management Department at the University of Haifa. In 2014, she completed a post-doctorate visiting scholar position at Educational Administration and Policies Studies, SUNY, University of Albany, NY, US. In 2021/2022 she was an adjunct Associate Professor in the Doctoral Program in Community-based Leadership, at CUNY, NY where she co-lectured online course on quantitative inquiry and mixed methods in social sciences. 

 

Her research focuses on leadership and comparative quantitative research. Specifically, she investigates (a) Educational minorities, (b) Boundary Leadership & Team Leadership (c) Education Governance, cross-cultural analysis, and PISA data analysis.

On a Global and National Rankings (ScholarGPS, 2024): Ranked #21 worldwide in Educational Leadership (by expertise) and #2 in Israel.​

 

She was declared Winner, ranked 1st in the Bar Ilan University Faculty of Education’s 2024 Excellence in Academic Writing, based on the Margalit-Belfer Index (which considers both the number of publications and their academic ranking)

She recently, received a Grant Awarded 300,000$ by the Teacher Training Division of the Israel's Ministry of Education, for the development and implementation of an in-service school principals training program (2025-2027).

 

She was the Principal Investigator of two research grants for the Chief Scientist Israel's Ministry of Education (93,000$)

In 2023, she was the recipient of the 2023 AERA SIG Organizational Theory Best Paper Award. In 2019 she was selected the Recipient of the Outstanding Reviewer Award in the 2020 Emerald Literati Awards for Excellence. In 2013 she was selected as the The Highly Commended Award Winner of the 2012 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards in the Education and Leadership strategy category.

She is also a member of the Editorial board of of the Journal of Education Administration and the International Journal of Sociology of  Education.  

 

She has published more than 60 articles in highly ranked journals such as Teacher Education and Teaching, Educational Management Administration and Leadership, Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness, Educational Administration Quarterly, Social Indicators of Research, Critical Studies in Education, Journal of Educational Administration, Teachers College Record, Small Group Research, European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology, International Journal of Leadership in Education, International Journal of Management in Education. 

 

She has consistently presented her research at highly esteemed international conferences such as the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (2014-2025), the Annual Conference of the University Council for Educational Administration (2016-2025), the Comparative International Education Society, (2017-2025), the Annual Meeting of the International Society for Educational Planning (2015), International Congress of Applied Psychology (2014) and the International Organizational Behavior Conference (2016).

Research Interests

Main Research Interests
As my academic research shows, I am interested in issues pertaining to educational policies and school leadership. Specifically, I’m investigating how the interplay between individual and environmental factors may influence the attitudes and behavior of both leaders, team members and school faculty.

 

Future Research Goals
I have been focusing on education governance and policy, cross-cultural and comparative research combining quantitative and qualitative research. My studies have also focused on team leadership, boundary management, participative leadership, and systems thinking with a particular focus on minorities in education and underrepresented population.
